Mathangi Vinoth
Mathangi Vinoth is the visionary force behind Mathangi Dance Company (MDC), one of Michigan’s premier Indian dance institutions. With over 35 years of dance experience and more than 30 years of teaching, Mathangi has dedicated her life to shaping not just dancers, but confident, disciplined, and well-rounded individuals.
Her journey began at the age of 4, and by 11, she had choreographed her first hit piece-an early spark that ignited her lifelong passion for dance and choreography. Since then, she has trained, choreographed, and performed for hundreds of schools, colleges, corporate productions, and across the media and entertainment industry. Her work has earned her a reputation for both technical excellence and creative brilliance, making her a respected name in live performances as well as production-driven environments.
Mathangi spent 6 years with the prestigious John Britto’s Dance Company in Chennai, where she performed in over 1,000 shows worldwide, often sharing the stage with many celebrated icons. She has traveled extensively, performing at major cultural festivals and corporate stages across the world, bringing the vibrant spirit of Indian dance to global audiences. Her television appearances span major Indian networks including Sun TV, Jaya TV, Raj TV, Star Vijay, Asianet, Doordarshan, and more.
Her versatility spans styles from Bharatanatyam to Bollywood, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Salsa, Contemporary, and Tango. Whether classical or cutting-edge, her choreography is rooted in discipline and storytelling-infused with emotion, culture, and purpose.
Outside of dance, Mathangi is also an accomplished athlete. A state-level hurdler and kho-kho champion, she has led numerous school and college teams to victory and was honored with her first award by the late Chief Minister Ms. J. Jayalalithaa. She brings the same athletic rigor, focus, and leadership to her dance training.
She is dedicated to ensuring that every student who walks through the doors of MDC receives not just dance training, but also valuable life skills and character development. She makes sure to instill sportsmanship, discipline, values, and ethics in every student she mentors. Her mission is to make every moment at MDC meaningful, to help each student realize their fullest potential, and to remind them that greatness lies within-and with the right guidance, it can shine through in every step they take.
